From the beginning of our administration, we set out to order the health system with austerity and seriousness. At Garrahan, this path allowed us to reach zero deficit, launch works and increase the income of professionals, turning it into the best hospital in Latin America.
The authorities of the Garrahan Hospital decided not to accept the 61% salary increase "in line with the efficiency" and "austerity" measures that "characterize this management", as members of the Board of Directors indicated in a statement. In the text, they expressed their decision not to be included in the salary increase announced last Tuesday for all the medical center's staff.
"This decision reaffirms this management's commitment to austerity, a value that has allowed us to achieve a historic administrative and financial order, guaranteeing the sustainability and growth of the hospital," they explained.
The measure was celebrated by the Minister of Health, Mario Lugones, who on his X account stated that it was a "gesture of responsibility". "My congratulations for this decision," he added.
The announced increase on the basic salary will be granted to permanent staff, public employment contracts, fellows and residents, will be implemented immediately and retroactively to October, and will not impact the earnings of the authorities, it has been reported. Resources are limited, so they must be allocated to the health team and to strengthening the care of children.
